Destination
The promised trip they never got to take. The one that was planned, dreamed about, and set aside for someday until someday no longer came. Destination takes widows and widowers on that trip, honoring the love behind it and the courage it takes to go.
What we offer
Destination is a fully funded solo trip that allows a widow or widower to complete travel they had once planned or dreamed of taking with their late spouse. Whether it was a trip they never got to book, or one that was cut short, Destination gives the traveler the chance to finally experience it.
Each Destination trip is accompanied by two members of the MAP team, who travel alongside the participant from start to finish. The trip, including travel, lodging, and related expenses, is fully covered by MAP.
Who is eligible?

Widowed status:
The traveler is a current widow or widower whose spouse has passed away, and has not remarried.

Time since loss:
There is no required waiting period. Grief doesn't move on a schedule, and neither does MAP.
Travelers are welcome to apply whenever they're ready, whether that's six months or six years after their loss.

Residency:
The traveler resides in the United States. MAP currently serves the U.S. widowed population.

Health and mobility:
The traveler must obtain a doctor's clearance to travel. MAP sends the clearance paperwork directly to the traveler's physician, who returns it directly to MAP.
Travelers who need mobility assistance must bring a caregiver who meets their home state's caregiving standard; MAP can help plan an accessible or adaptable trip but is not able to cover caregiver costs.

Financial need:
Not required. MAP welcomes applicants at any income level.

Proof of loss:
A certified copy of the spouse's death certificate is required to confirm eligibility.

Previous participation:
The traveler has not previously received fully or partially funded travel through another MAP program.
Where we go
Our Destination program currently operates within Tiers 1, 2, and 3 destinations because of the medical, safety, and cost realities of group travel for our population. We're not able to offer Tier 4 or trips that fall out of scope.
